Overview
The Singapore Business Leaders Programme (SBLP) is Asia’s premier senior business leaders’ programme. It was first announced in 2009 by Singapore Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, as a leadership development programme that would cater to senior business executives. Since its first run in May 2011, the SBLP has featured an illustrious list of speakers such as the Presidents and CEOs of global and regional companies as well as political leaders including the late Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, who shared his thoughts on key political, economic, and social developments across Asia.
Who Should Attend?
- Senior business leaders and entrepreneurs based anywhere in the world who have an interest in Asia
- Typical applicants include C-suite leaders, direct reports of CEOs, and business owners of mid-to-large size companies
What to Expect
SBLP connects people.
Networking opportunities are built into the programme for the forging of strong ties and collaboration among the participants, and with the faculty. Relationship building across industries and geographies will not end with the week. Participants will become part of an exclusive alumni network to continue their learning journey.
SBLP connects ideas.
Multiple perspectives and trends are distilled with a focus on the business applications of each participant. The outcome of this focus is alignment at personal, organisational and societal levels. The intersection of leading-edge thinking and action agendas enables businesses and their leaders to tap into opportunities while navigating challenges in a diverse and complex Asia.
Programme Experience
At the programme, participants spend four and a half days together with a small and exclusive group of senior business leaders who become their personal sounding boards and confidantes. This drives the learning both during and following the programme.
The residential retreat setting provides an oasis for leaders to refresh, reset, and reimagine what is next for themselves, their organisations, and their industries. SBLP provides an opportunity to zoom out from the day-to-day, and gain new insights from industry champions, political leaders, and global thought leaders.
As more global corporations are setting up their decision-making functions in Asia, and Asian companies embark on a globalising operations, a pipeline of strong leaders in Asia is needed.
The SBLP’s content has a unique emphasis on foresight and emerging issues, enabling participants to carve out time to drive future thinking. Global and regional challenges facing business leaders in Asia across industries are examined. Participants will have space to reflect on their personal challenges and develop plans of action to drive forward.
Why SBLP?
Learn From Leaders
We believe the best way to learn leadership is from leaders. In addition to top academic and political leaders, the SBLP brings together illustrious business speakers who share practical advice for the challenges our participants face. The SBLP’s distinguishing feature is that the majority of its speakers come from the business world.
Asia Lens
We believe that to be a global leader, one has to know Asia. The SBLP brings in the insights, knowledge, and network of Asia, enabling participants to understand leadership through an Asian lens. Through SBLP, participants are better equipped to lead and succeed in Asia and the world.
Personal Approach
We believe that senior leaders benefit from a safe and trusted environment outside of their companies in which to discuss business challenges. Each cohort size is kept small to facilitate open and honest conversations among peers. SBLP participants graduate to become part of a larger HCLI network of alumni comprising senior leaders across industries.
