HCLI appoints Dr. Kevyn Yong as Chief Executive Officer

The Human Capital Leadership Institute (HCLI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kevyn Yong as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 9 July 2025.

Dr. Yong currently serves as Chief Learning Officer at HCLI, a role he has held since September 2023. With deep expertise in leadership development, innovation, and executive education, he brings a strong track record of designing impactful learning experiences and cultivating leadership for transformation.

Prior to joining HCLI, Dr. Yong was Chief Learning Officer at the Singapore Institute of Management. He also held academic leadership positions at ESSEC Business School—including Dean of ESSEC Asia-Pacific and Associate Dean of Executive Education—and served as Associate Professor of Management at HEC Paris. He has taught at renowned institutions such as Cornell University and the National University of Singapore.

Dr. Yong has partnered with global organisations including Amazon, ATOS, eBay, Nike, Danone, Deutsche Bank, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, and UOB, delivering customised leadership and innovation programmes across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

He holds a Ph.D. in Management and Organizations from the S.C. Johnson School of Management at Cornell University, and degrees in Psychology and Philosophy from the National University of Singapore, as well as a Master’s in Mind, Brain, and Education from Harvard University. He has received multiple accolades for teaching excellence, including the Pedagogy Innovation Prize by the HEC Foundation.

Professor Arnoud De Meyer, Chairman of HCLI, shared:

With his experience across several leading education and training institutions, and his contributions to HCLI over the past 20 months, I am confident that he will bring valuable insight and leadership to the organisation as it enters its next chapter.”

Reflecting on his new appointment, Dr. Yong said:

To this end, I envision HCLI as the ideal place where leaders come to learn from leaders throughout their careers and across cultures.”

The Board also takes this opportunity to express its sincere appreciation to Doris Sohmen-Pao, who will be stepping down as CEO. Doris has led HCLI since 2020, having guided the organisation through the challenging period of the pandemic and driving its transformation into a vibrant and forward-looking institution.

Reflecting on her tenure, Doris shared:

“It’s been an absolute privilege to lead HCLI. I am grateful for all the energy that our staff, participants and facilitators have invested in nurturing the development of business leaders in Asia and I look forward to seeing HCLI continue to play a role in developing our most important resource—human capital.”
