At the recent NSEW2050 Summit, focused on building a global community of climate leaders, we were incredibly inspired by the powerful stories shared at this sustainability panel, moderated by HCLI’s CXO, Dr. Nadir Zafar. Two exceptional women, Liyana Sulaiman and Mathilda D’silva, shared their personal journeys and motivations for championing environmental causes.

Liyana’s Journey from Landfill to Change

Liyana, Chief Product & Technology Officer and Co-Founder of Pollen (and finalist for OCBC’s 2024 Emerging Enterprise Awards), recounted a formative experience at age 17, witnessing brand new shoes discarded in a landfill. This sparked a lifelong commitment to reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices.

Mathilda’s Fight for Clean Oceans

Mathilda, CEO of Ocean Purpose Project and 2024-2025 Obama Foundation Asia-Pacific Leader, shared how polluted waters in Boracay impacted her health and ignited her passion for ocean conservation and cleaner water.

Working Together for a Sustainable Future

Both Liyana and Mathilda emphasised the importance of collaborating with corporations to create sustainable solutions.

HCLI’s Commitment to Sustainability

At HCLI, we believe that by fostering dialogue and sharing inspiring stories, we can empower individuals to become agents of change. The sustainability agenda is a part of some of our key programmes.
