5 Apr | 4 - 5 PM | The Rise of Blockchain and its Impact on the Finance Industry
Guest Speaker: Oi-Yee Choo, ADDX
The emergence of cryptocurrency has given rise to a blockchain boom in recent years. Blockchain – also known as distributed ledger technology – has huge potential to drive major changes across global businesses, including in saving costs, improving efficiency, and increasing transparency.
Oi-Yee Choo, CEO of ADDX, believes that crypto winter is blockchain summer, because it will force capital to focus on blockchain applications with practical real-world projects. She will talk about use cases of blockchain in the finance industry, such as administering securities in a much more efficient way. Blockchain has the potential to correct many inefficiencies inherent to the journey taken when securities are passed from one owner to another. All relevant information is recorded in a single space, with ownership records and transactions updated in real time on one ledger. This drastically reduces the need for intermediaries. Smart contracts, a key feature of blockchain technology, can also automate other asset-servicing actions such as dividend payments. Traditional financial institutions from the US to Southeast Asia are now actively studying how blockchain can transform their businesses. Oi-Yee Choo is CEO of ADDX, a private market investment platform that is regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. She has 20 years of capital raising and M&A advisory experience.
Before joining ADDX, Oi-Yee was with UBS for six years and was Head of Investment Banking for UBS Singapore. She joined UBS from Morgan Stanley, where she was Head of Singapore Investment Banking. Prior to Morgan Stanley, she ran the Southeast Asia real estate investment banking franchise for Nomura Singapore. She started her investment banking career with Citigroup, covering Singapore corporate and real estate clients.
Between 2006 and 2008, Oi-Yee was Senior Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, for Parkway Holdings, the largest healthcare company in Asia, and helped create the Parkway Life REIT.
Oi-Yee graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from Nanyang Technological University. She also has an MBA degree from Manchester Business School.
